Scanna launch first handheld pulsed x-ray dosemeter

Scanna MSC is pleased to announce the availability of the PXRD Pulsed X-ray Dosemeter, a specialist radiation monitoring device engineered specifically for use with pulsed X-ray generators.

The PXRD has been designed in collaboration with Southern Scientific to accurately detect and measure ultra-short pulsed X-ray emissions (down to 25 nanoseconds), making it ideally suited for users of Golden Engineering x-ray sources, including the XR150, XR200 , XRS-3 and XRS-4 models, in EOD, security screening and NDT operations.

Unlike conventional radiation meters, which can struggle to measure pulsed outputs accurately, the PXRD delivers reliable dose measurement across an extended dynamic range. Dual detectors allow both close-in beam measurements and low-dose perimeter monitoring, supporting safe operational deployment and controlled area mapping.

Compact and lightweight (480 g), the IP54-rated device features configurable audible, visual and vibration alarms, real-time dose logging with CSV export capability, and up to 8 hours of continuous operation from a rechargeable USB-C fast-charging battery.

The PXRD is now available through Scanna MSC as part of our integrated portable X-ray solutions portfolio, further strengthening our ability to provide complete pulsed X-ray capability — X-ray image plates, processors, software, sources and radiation safety monitoring and calibration.

PXRD will be showcased at the Security and Policing exhibition, Farnborough, 10-12 March 2026.
