Art and Museum Conservation

Portable x-ray equipment can be used to reveal details of paintings and artwork which can assist with revealing brushwork, hidden layers, ghost images etc.

X-ray equipment is also helpful for revealing the inner construction of museum artefacts to better understand the fabrication methods involved in their design.

An X-ray can help determine the best way to preserve the piece, understand how it was made and whether it has changed or deteriorated over time. It is also a useful tool in evaluating authenticity and whether parts were added later.

Both CR and a-Si portable x-ray machines provide the required level of detail for such investigative work.

Our Scanview Software allows you to measure and compare what they see in the image, such as core pins in a statue that may be invisible to the naked eye.

A CR System will provide high resolution 10 lp/mm imaging down to 50 micron. Its digital film plates can also be used inside a cabinet x-ray chamber to provide a safe working environment for the x-ray inspection of small artefacts.

Scansilc Amorphous Silicon panels provide superb high definition 14 bit images for revealing details of the internal construction of an object and for revealing brushwork.
